Browser agents

Browser agents operate websites like a person: they navigate, read, click and fill in forms – even where no API exists.

Many business processes run through web interfaces for which no programming interface is available. Browser agents close this gap: they control a browser, interpret page content and carry out multi-step tasks.

Technically, the tools combine browser automation with language models that understand page structure or screen content. Some provide libraries for developers, others ready-made agents or hosted browser environments.

Role in an AI-first business model

Browser agents make processes automatable that previously depended on manual operation – such as research in portals or transferring data between systems without an interface.

Because they act on behalf of the company on third-party websites, they need especially clear limits: which sites are allowed, which inputs may be made without approval, and what happens with unexpected content?

What to look for when choosing

  • Clearly restrict permitted websites and actions
  • No credentials or payment data without a controlled mechanism
  • Handling of instructions hidden in web pages (prompt injection)
  • Stability when page structures change

7 tools in this category

Skyvern

Browser automation tool that combines language models with computer vision. Its agents log in to portals, fill out forms, download files and extract structured data.

OpenAgents

Open platform from XLang for using and hosting language agents in everyday, real-world settings. It is useful for trying out agents for tasks such as data analysis, plugin use and web browsing.

Steel Browser

Open-source browser infrastructure for AI agents with session-based automation. It provides data extraction, screenshots and PDFs, an agent-oriented CLI and a reusable skill.

Actionbook

Command-line tool that lets AI agents run many browser actions in parallel across several websites. Helpful when agents need to handle recurring web tasks at scale and at the same time.

invisible-playwright

Playwright wrapper that uses a stealth-patched Firefox build with fingerprint spoofing implemented in its source code. It works as a drop-in replacement and returns standard Playwright browser objects.

Webcmd

Self-learning browser infrastructure for AI agents that records how a website is navigated. It then compiles this into deterministic, site-specific command-line commands that can be repeated reliably.

socai

Open-source browser agent for social media research that reuses a signed-in Chrome session. It searches and reads posts and comments, captures media and returns structured evidence through a CLI, TUI or desktop app.

From tool to outcome

In AI-first coaching you clarify which outcomes AI agents should be accountable for in your go-to-market and within which framework. REVAGO then designs, builds and runs your system. You pay for results – not for activity.
