AI sales call coaching

An AI that supports your salespeople on the phone sounds like a quick revenue lever. Whether it works depends on two questions: whose voice is captured – and what happens to the insights?

What AI call coaching delivers

It means an AI that supports salespeople around a customer conversation. Good solutions focus on three moments:

Before the call
A briefing brings together what is known about the customer: previous contacts, open cases, the goal of the call.
During the call
A few targeted prompts on screen – for example on an objection, an open question or the next step.
After the call
Summary, next steps and learnings that a person reviews before they go into the case or the knowledge base.

The decisive question: whose voice is captured?

Many solutions listen to the whole conversation – your side and the customer’s. That provides more material, but also raises the most questions: a customer has not agreed to being listened to just because they answer your call.

The alternative is coaching that only captures your own side: what your salesperson says, not what the customer says. That is less data – and often enough for coaching. After all, your salesperson can only improve what they say themselves.

Types of providers

The market is young and the terms are fuzzy. Broadly, there are three approaches. The examples are a neutral selection in no particular order; the descriptions follow each provider’s website (as of 23 October 2026).

Post-call conversation analysis
Example: GongCaptures customer interactions and evaluates which practices succeed; focus on analysis, forecasting and enablement.
Real-time assistance in the contact centre
Example: BaltoGives contact centre agents real-time guidance during the call, complemented by quality assurance and coaching.
Live coaching for salespeople
Example: CloseAIBy its own description, listens in on sales calls and gives live prompts; a German-language offering.

The legal framework in Germany

Four rules are worth knowing before you introduce AI call coaching:

Confidentiality of the spoken word (Section 201 German Criminal Code)
In Germany, it is a criminal offence to record another person’s non-public spoken word without authorisation, or to listen in on it with a listening device. Capturing the customer’s voice therefore requires a sound legal basis – in practice usually consent. Source
Data protection (GDPR)
Voice and conversation content are personal data – of customers and employees alike. You need a legal basis, information for the people concerned and clear retention and deletion rules. The less you capture and the shorter you keep it, the simpler this becomes. Source
EU AI Act (Article 5(1)(f))
Since 2 February 2025, AI systems that infer the emotions of natural persons in the workplace are prohibited – except for medical or safety reasons. “Sentiment analysis” of your own employees falls under this. Source
Co-determination (Section 87(1) no. 6 German Works Constitution Act)
In Germany, technical equipment intended to monitor employees’ conduct or performance is subject to co-determination. If you have a works council, involve it early. Source

This overview provides orientation and does not replace legal advice. Whether a solution is permissible in your company depends on how it is set up.

What to look for when choosing

  • Whose voice is captured – only your employees’ or also the customer’s?
  • Is audio stored, and if so, for how long and where?
  • Does the solution work without emotion or sentiment recognition?
  • Who reviews what is taken from a conversation as a learning – the AI alone or a person?
  • Do results end up in the case and the next steps, or do they stay in yet another tool?
  • Is it defined what the data is not used for – for example, monitoring the performance of individual employees?

From tool to result

A call coach is a tool. More revenue only comes when the conversation is part of a process: with a clear goal, a briefing from customer data, a case where the result lands, and people who know where they decide.

This is how we work: We coach you. We build your agents. We run your system. You pay for results – not for activity.

The call coach in the REVAGO system

Our call coach follows exactly these design decisions. It is not a separate tool, but part of the case in which the call takes place:

Coach sales calls live

The call coach supports your people on the phone directly from the case: with a guide for the next sentence, short live prompts and a review after the call. Your employee decides what goes into the case when they confirm the analysis.

Scope: Only your own side of the conversation is transcribed, not the customer’s. REVAGO does not store call audio and does not recognise emotions. Personal reviews are visible only to the employee concerned; live prompts follow an approved playbook.

Not to be confused with AI-first coaching

AI call coaching supports individual sales conversations. Our AI-first coaching is for you, as leadership: in it, you find out whether and how AI agents can secure and grow your revenue. The coaches there are people.

Frequently asked questions about AI call coaching

What is AI sales call coaching?

AI call coaching supports salespeople around a customer conversation: with a briefing before, a few targeted prompts during and a follow-up after the call. The offerings differ mainly in whose voice they capture, whether they store audio and what happens to the insights.

Is an AI allowed to listen in on a sales call?

Not without more. In Germany, Section 201 of the Criminal Code protects the non-public spoken word; recording or listening in on the customer’s voice requires authorisation, in practice usually consent. GDPR obligations come on top. Coaching that only captures your own side of the conversation avoids some of these questions. For your specific case, this does not replace legal advice.

May AI call coaching analyse employees’ emotions?

No. Since 2 February 2025, the EU AI Act prohibits AI systems that infer emotions in the workplace unless they serve medical or safety purposes. When choosing a tool, make sure the coaching works without emotion recognition.

Does AI call coaching need works council approval?

In Germany, where there is a works council, usually yes: technical equipment intended to monitor conduct or performance is subject to co-determination under Section 87(1) no. 6 of the Works Constitution Act. Involve it early and define what the data is used for – and what it is not used for.

How does the REVAGO call coach work?

It supports your people on the phone directly from the case: with a guide for the next sentence, short live prompts based on an approved playbook and a review after the call. Only your own side of the conversation is transcribed. REVAGO does not store call audio and does not recognise emotions. Your employee confirms what goes into the case.

What is the difference between AI call coaching and AI-first coaching?

AI call coaching supports individual sales conversations. Our AI-first coaching is for you, as leadership: in it, you find out whether and how AI agents can secure and grow your revenue. The coaches there are people.

Is an AI call coach enough to grow revenue?

A tool on its own rarely is. Call coaching becomes effective when it is tied to a clear goal, to the case in the system and to the next steps – and when someone is accountable for turning it into results. That is how we design and run AI agents in sales: you pay for results – not for activity.
